Laid off during the Covid, a man becomes an entrepreneur. Now owns a startup with 30 employees

A man used the Covid-19 pandemic for better career prospects after losing his job in 2020 and becoming an entrepreneur

The ongoing pandemic has left many people jobless and without income, however, some have turned adversity into opportunity.

“To the people who have been affected by the layoffs, I was laid off in May 2020,” writes Prashant Mahajan, who is now the co-founder of product management platform Zeda.io.

Zeda.io was founded by Mahajan and Vaibhav Devpura in January last year in Bengaluru and registered in Delaware, USA.

Mahajan added, “Fast forward to May 2022, I now have a startup with a team of 30 people.”

Telling his story, Mahajan said: “I and over 100 other people had to leave the company. Why this happened I don’t know, and I believe and trust the company and my manager. , who is the CEO, for having valid reasons. But it was unexpected.

He further wrote, “I have been lucky enough to be in contact with great companies and many people have helped and referred me. Here are some companies I have interviewed with and I was looking forward to… (sic)”

Mahajan launched Zeda.io as a side project. “A product to make product management easier and smarter,” he said.

“The website was launched, the prototype was built, the team was assembled and we had 150 clients on the waiting list within a month. As a PM I love talking to my clients and I have done the same, I have spoken to almost 50 clients on the waitlist, and just talking to them gave me the idea I’m building something useful. I had pushed the idea of doing something myself with some excuse or another, I always had a good job, in which I was so comfortable, that I never had the courage to leave it,” he added.

Mahajan thinks being fired is the best thing that ever happened to him.

Zeda.io raises $1.2 million in seed capital

In January this year, Zeda.io announced a $1.2 million fundraising round from BEENEXT, 021 Capital backed by Binny Bansal and existing investors Whiteboard Capital, FirstCheque.vc and Paradigm Shift Capital.

The company will use the funds for product development and expanding its team into functions such as product, engineering and business.

Zeda.io is live with around 300 users from 6 geographies on the platform in private beta mode, with another 4,000 on the waiting list.
